Retroficiency employs energy analytics and rapid building modeling to prioritize retrofit opportunities among building portfolios. Along with a commercial partner, Fraunhofer experts evaluated the accuracy of this tool for a pool of commercial buildings using real data against real energy savings data.

Radiator Labs

Through TechBridge, Radiator Labs was able to work with building efficiency experts to conduct a field test on their heating unit retrofit solution in an active university dormitory. This test quantified the energy-efficiency benefits of their simple yet efficient radiator enclosures and revealed potential improvements.

Embue

Embue offers low-cost hardware/software solutions for collecting household energy consumption data. Fraunhofer developed and executed tests on Embue algorithms using advanced approaches to building energy simulation. The work focused on developing residential building models in three different climate locations.

Ubiquitous Energy offers a flexible, thin-film PV module transparent to visible light. The TechBridge project validated the PV production in standard windows in 16 climates according to advanced commercial energy simulation techniques, and also advised on manufacturing methods and product materials.

N12 products increase the load-carrying capacity, conductivity, and thermal management of composite materials with a novel laminate and layering systems. Fraunhofer accelerated their work through technical consulting which involved state-of-the-art laboratory resources, materials preparation, and laminate deposition implementation.

Bytelight offers an indoor positioning system for mobile phones using specialized LED lights. TechBridge experts developed an application to modify controls of optical sensor exposure time for indoor lighting and successfully demodulate the ID codes of the LED code-emitters.
ByteLight was acquired by Acuity Brands in 2015.

Arctic Sand

Arctic Sand develops power converter chips to reduce electricity costs for data centers and sustainable energy electronics. Experts at Fraunhofer CSE worked with Arctic Sand to refine a DC-DC converter prototype for solar cells and execute advanced thermal cycling tests.

TechBridge designed a project with National Grid to test the capabilities of First Fuel’s non-invasive “zero-touch” building audit software using authentic, utility-level consumption data. This study proved-out the competitive advantage of this novel approach to consumption analysis.
